About  the author

I have been a life long student of the game of golf, having played it since 1959.  During that time I have seen nearly every major tournament and many regular tour events.  I have also read most of the golf publications on a regular basis.  I operated a golf business for about twenty years.  Anyone with this kind of exposure to the game will almost automatically gain a good knowledge of its top players.  Of course the more prominent the player the more there is to know about him.

A while back I was listening to a well known poet being interviewed on NPR radio.  During the interview he stated that he wished more people would read poetry on a regular basis.  Being a systems analyst by training, I thought about his statement and came to the conclusion that most people probably do not read poetry because it tends to be abstract and difficult to understand.

Then I remembered there was one poet, Rod McKuen, who was very popular in the 1960's and 70's.  He wrote dozens of poetry books, most of which sold in the millions.  I even read a few of them.  My observation to his success was that his poems were very easy to read, understand and enjoy.

I began to think that if a collection of poems were written that could be related to and enjoyed then more people would engage in this form of reading.  I possess no formal poetic training and have always had the attitude that if it rhymes its poetry.  Using that approach I decided to try my hand at writing about something I have some knowledge of--golf.  There are many directions that can be taken in writing about the game.  The obvious one is to write about great golfers.

So this is how the site was begun.  However, as time goes on the site will be expended to include all aspects of the game.  One of the goals is to create a collection of poems that describe a wide variety of golfers and events.

I hope you enjoy the content of the site, now and as it increases in the future.

Best wishes.
